Peter the Great picked the strategic spot of Hare Island to lay the first symbolic stone of his new city in 1703. This military square built to protect St-Petersburg from the Swedes has several buildings including a splendid cathedral where almost all of the Romanovs are buried, including Nicholas II, who was interred there in 1998.
Opening: From 10am to 6pm.
Closing: Closed on Wednesdays, except between May 1st and June 30th.
